Description:

Pre-Columbian, Ecuador or Southern Colombia, Narino, ca. 900 to 1200 CE. A stunning scalloped rim that resembles a flower in bloom with large scalloped petals then painted with negative resist motifs across the upper facing basin and lip. The bowl stands upon 5 hollow legs that also functioned as rattles - due to repairs, the rattles no longer function. This elaborate vessel may have served as an offering bowl during ritualistic ceremonies - the flower shape perhaps representing fertility and the rattle legs emitting a sound to draw attention to this incredible piece. Size: 13.75" Diameter x 4.5" H (34.9 cm x 11.4 cm)

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full printed and bound report is available to the buyer upon request.
