Europe, Germany, ca. 2002 CE. Incredible chess set made of pewter and individually hand-painted. Set represents the French versus British battle at Waterloo which took place in 1815. Kings are Napolean on the French side and Arthur Wellesley 1st Duke of Wellington on the British side. Queens are the Empress Josephine and Queen Charlotte. Bishops as Field Marshal Gebhard Leberecht von Blucher and Major General Lord Robert Edward Somerset (for the English/Prussian side), and Édouard Mortier 1st Duc of Trévise and Marshal of France Michel Ney (for the French side). The pawns are British foot soldiers and French Grenadiers. Created by Manfred Baeuerle. Chess set comes with beautifully epoxy / resin board of natural wood and black painted wood squares. Size (board): 23.5" W (59.7 cm); 5.125" H (13 cm) for some pieces.

  • Condition: Very good. One British pawn/soldier missing the bayonet at end of his rifle. The rifle has been reattached. One French Grenadier/pawn’s head is wobbly. One French knight has one foot that is not attached securely to the base. Else quite excellent.

For shipments of oversize items, Artemis Gallery will assist the buyer in working with a third-party shipping provider. For shipments outside of the USA, customs and duties may apply upon entry into said country, and this fee, if any, is the buyer's responsibility.
