Pre-Columbian, North Coast of Peru, Moche, Phase IV, ca. 450 to 700 CE. A hand-built and highly burnished pottery stirrup vessel depicting a seated figure dressed in robes and exhibiting a red-painted face. The figure poses with one leg atop the other, holding a petite medallion with one hand, and peering upwards as if in a trance. Yellow and red pigments create an intriguing presentation for this artifact. Size: 5.8" L x 4.3" W x 7.5" H (14.7 cm x 10.9 cm x 19 cm)

Provenance: private Leonard collection, Virginia, USA, acquired in Peru in the 1970s
