Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast of Peru, Moche, Phase IV, ca. 450 to 650 CE. A hand-built and highly burnished pottery stirrup vessel with a stylized figure sitting cross-legged on top. The figure wears a long-sleeved tunic, a cap decorated with cross-hatched patterns, and a shawl over the cap and beneath the chin. A stirrup-shaped handle and cylindrical spout emanating from the top half of the relatively spherical body. Size: 4.2" W x 7.9" H (10.7 cm x 20.1 cm)

  • Condition: Repair to spout and stirrup handle as well as head, with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines; one small loss behind head. Minor abrasions and fading to pigment, with one small perforation near figure's right temple, and light earthen deposits in scattered areas. Nice preservation to figure.
