Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Moche IV (Classic Period) of V, ca. 550 to 800 CE. A large-chambered stirrup vessel with a wide spout, a stirrup handle that flares out as it meets the body of the vessel, and a flat base. The body is mold-made to show a jagged mountain, its sides occupied by an audience of human figures, witnessing a sacrifice. A seated lord wearing a crescent-shaped headdress is at the base of the mountain, observing the proceedings. The body of the sacrifice lies splayed out at the base of the mountain. Below that are fine line motifs of flora, including cacti; on the back of the vessel, the fine line motifs expand, and include two serpents. Size: 6" W x 8.15" H (15.2 cm x 20.7 cm)
