Description:

Pre-Columbian, Gulf Coast Mexico, Veracruz (Vera Cruz) culture, ca. 3rd to 7th century CE. A charming, hand-built pottery figure of a male standing on delineated legs. Nude, he is depicted with exposed genitalia beneath a rotund abdomen and a twisted textile around his neck, with his left arm extended forward and his right arm extended backwards. Both his body and legs are adorned with dozens of pecked holes which give him a tattooed appearance. Puffy cheeks, impressed coffee-bean-shaped eyes, a tab-shaped nose, and a hanging tongue define his visage, and his lobed brow has a central vertical indentation. Custom wooden display stand included. Size: 3.75" W x 5.2" H (9.5 cm x 13.2 cm); 6" H (15.2 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Southern California, USA collection, acquired in the 1970s to mid-1980s
