Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Moche IV (Classic Period), ca. 550 to 650 CE. A small-chambered stirrup vessel with a flat base, wide spout, and a stirrup handle that flares out at an angle from one side of the body. A tall, closed projection rises from the center of the body, terminating in a rounded, cap-like upper end. The body is painted with dramatic, detailed, fine line painting showing a variety of figures and scenes. Two figures in beautifully decorated textiles and headdresses speak with one another; beside them are two figures who appear to be fighting with maces. Jaguar heads adorn two of the maces. Size: 7" W x 8.2" H (17.8 cm x 20.8 cm)

  • Condition: Repaired and restored from multiple pieces, with very small areas of overpaint to the motifs, notably around the upper part. These repairs are well done and very difficult to discern. Nice preservation of motifs.
