Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Moche to Chimu culture, ca. 800 to 1300 CE. A collection of 2 copper and silver-copper alloy pincers, a copper rattle bell implement, a copper hemispherical ornament, and a bird pendant. Tweezers were used by both men and women as depilatory tools to pull hairs off the face and other regions of the body. The repousse face rattle is made from 2 hemispherical pieces folded together and a pellet bead inside. Birds, especially hummingbirds were a favorite motif in jewelry - it's possible this is a sicklebill - an Andean / Amazonian species of hummingbird with a downturned beak. Size of largest hemisphere: 1.25" Diameter (3.2 cm)
