Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central America, Costa Rica, Guanacaste Nicoya region, ca. 200 to 600 CE. A hand-built pottery vessel with a stylized avian head rattle protruding from the front. The charming bird has bulging eyes with a thick beak below, and the shoulder of the vessel is covered in polychrome geometric motifs. The hand-built, spool-form pottery base features a pair of abstract zoomorphic heads poking out of the sides, perhaps canine heads. Size: 7.25" W x 7.5" H (18.4 cm x 19 cm); 10.1" H (25.7 cm) on accompanying pottery base.
