Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Moche, Phase IV, ca. 450 to 700 CE. A wonderful pottery vessel bearing highly burnished surfaces as well as a radiating octopus along one side. The vessel exhibits a flat base, a spherical body, an ovoid, stirrup-shaped handle, and a cylindrical spout on top. The vessel is presented in a red-and-beige color scheme which is featured on each side of each bodily component. The beige-colored half of the body is accentuated with an abstract, red-painted octopus as if seen from below with seven extensive tentacles with spiraling outer tips. Size: 5.2" W x 9.8" H (13.2 cm x 24.9 cm)
