Description:

Pre-Columbian, north coast Peru, Moche, Phase I, ca. 100 to 300 CE. A hand-built and highly burnished blackware vessel with a stable base and a bulbous body depicting a seated figure. The individual sits with petite feet protruding from the base, an attentive countenance with wide, almond-shaped eyes, an incised headwrap that encircles the brow with a knot on the verso, and traces of white pigment within some facial details. From the back projects a circular, stirrup-shaped handle with a cylindrical spout bearing a thick, sloped rim. Size: 4.8" W x 6.6" H (12.2 cm x 16.8 cm)
