Pre-Columbian, Valley of Mexico, Oaxaca, Mixtec people, ca. 900 to 1200 CE. A cast-copper knife with a slender handle that expands to form a broad, crescent-shaped blade with a projecting tip. The knife features a single-edged design along the front as well as raised ridges along the handle and back periphery. Knives like this example were multifunctional tools used for cutting soft materials like wood for carving, fruits and meats for eating, or even human flesh for ritual sacrifices.
