Description:

Pre-Columbian, Highland Southern Mexico, Mixtec culture, ca. 1250-1521 CE. This seated figurine is intriguing for its handbuilt, slender form replete with abstract, rope-like limbs characteristic of Pre-Columbian sculptors of various cultures. Most endearing is its grinning face, which is oh so carefully delineated with fine details. Note the furrows above his brows, his high cheekbones, half-closed eyes, and open mouth, all meticulously modeled. The figure is nude aside for his choker, loincloth, wrist cuffs, and ankle cuffs. With his arms extended, it is possible he is engaged in a ritualistic dance or perhaps given his great smile, a humorous exchange. ~3-1/2"H x 2-3/4"D x 2-1/2"W
