Native American, Southeastern United States, Arkansas, Poinsett County, Mississippian culture, ca. 11th to 12th century CE. A hand-built pottery bowl of utilitarian form featuring an abstract 'cat-serpent' handle emanating from the frontal rim. The cat-serpent was a combination of a feline and a horned serpent as both served as symbols of the sacred Beneath World from which religious practitioners gained visionary insight and power. Size: 6.875" L x 6" W x 4.6" H (17.5 cm x 15.2 cm x 11.7 cm)
