Native American, Southeast or Midwest, Mississippian, ca. 900 to 1543 CE. A wonderful pottery jar presenting a bulbous body with a gently attenuated neck that flares out to a broad, heptagonal rim, all sitting upon a planar base. Displaying nice remains of gray slip, the exterior of the vessel is adorned with incised vertical striations along the neck, impressed dashes along the rim, and an abstract, geometric motif comprised of applied clay strips and incised lines on the body. An impressive example from Mississippian culture! Size: 6.1" Diameter x 4.9" H (15.5 cm x 12.4 cm)
