Pre-Columbian, Colombia, Sinu, ca. 10th to mid-16th century CE. A charming pendant cast from over 22 karat gold in the form of a petite frog with bulging raised eyes and large, webbed feet. His proper left front leg is curled to double as a suspension loop, allowing him to be worn on a necklace or bracelet. Frogs and toads signified seasonal rainfalls as well as fertility and transformation - eggs hatching into tadpoles then evolving into frogs. Size: 0.8" L x 0.4" W x 0.3" H (2 cm x 1 cm x 0.8 cm); gold quality: 94.09% (equivalent to over 22 karats); weight: 4.4 grams
