Description:

**Originally Listed At $150**

Roman, late Imperial Period, ca. late 3rd to 4th century CE. An adorable jarlet of a miniature size, free-blown from nearly-transparent glass of a soft sage-green hue. The petite vessel is defined by a flat base with a rough pontil scar, a spherical body with six shallow indentations, a rounded shoulder tapering to a squat neck, and a flared rim with an in-folded lip. Delicate areas of silvery iridescence complement the vessel's verdant hues and imbue it with a refined presentation. Size: 1.5" W x 1.7" H (3.8 cm x 4.3 cm).

Provenance: East Coast collection, New York Gallery, New York City, New York, USA, acquired before 2010

#139605

  • Condition: Minor abrasions to body and rim, with micro-bubbling within glass matrix, and light encrustations within body, otherwise intact and very good. Pontil mark on underside of base. A pontil scar or mark indicates that a vessel was free-blown, while the absence of such a mark suggests that the work was either mold-blown or that the mark was intentionally smoothed away or wore away over time. Light earthen deposits and faint silver iridescence throughout. Old inventory label beneath base.
