Description:

Robert Bellarmine Kokuluk (Native American, Alaska, Inupiat, 1952-2018) & Artie George (First Nations, Canada, Coast Salish, b. 1970). A pair of hand carved miniature sculptural carvings by Northwestern Indigenous artists. The cedarwood eagle is by Artie George, signed and titled on the verso. The walrus ivory spirit mask is signed "RB Kokuluk" along the edge of the base and has a black piece of whale baleen attached to one side mask and ptarmigan or grouse feathers. The seal likely symbolizes a spirit mask's traditional function for bringing fortune during hunts. Size of eagle: 2.75" L x 1.5" W (7 cm x 3.8 cm); 4.5" H (11.4 cm) on included custom stand.
