Magna Graecia, Southern Italy, probably Campania, ca. 4th century BCE. Sweet and petite, a miniature blackware vessel in the shape of a pumpkin or gourd, with a flared tubular neck rising above, and a strap handle joining neck to shoulder, all upon a slightly concave base. The piece is glazed in a deep, glossy black that may have been intended to imitate bronze over most of the body and handle.
