Description:

Native American, North America, southwest corner of New Mexico, Mogollon/Classic Mimbres, ca. 1050 to 1150 CE. A lovely black-on-white bowl created via the coil-and-scrape method and intricately painted on the interior with a wide band of abstract geometric motifs that extends approximately two-thirds of the way into the basin. Above the geometric register is a pair of parallel lines, and the basin center and exterior surfaces are unadorned. Size: 9.125" W x 4.75" H (23.2 cm x 12.1 cm).

Provenance: private New Jersey, USA collection, purchased in 2007; ex-James Lee collection, Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, USA, excavated on private property south of Deming, New Mexico around 1976

  • Condition: Professionally repaired from multiple pieces, with larger areas of restoration in center of basin and on rim, and with resurfacing and light overpainting along new material and break lines. Minor nicks and abrasions to body, rim, and base, with light fading to original pigmentation. Light earthen deposits throughout.
