Description:

Oceania, Papua New Guinea, ca. mid-20th century CE. A large feast bowl carved from lustrous hard wood with a planar base, gradually expanding walls, a plateaued rim, and a wide, shallow basin. The top of the rim is adorned with incised oblong panels of curvilinear motifs which imbue the vessel with a personalized presentation. The bowl is enveloped in lustrous dark-brown patina. Size: 20.2" L x 11.5" W x 3.75" H (51.3 cm x 29.2 cm x 9.5 cm).
