Description:

Native American, Pacific Northwest Coast (USA and Canada), ca. mid 20th century CE. A beautiful carved wooden bowl with twin seabirds, one at either end. Their heads project outward from the ends of the long, ovoid body, each with a hooked beak and incised round eyes. Their bodies flow in low relief along the underside of the bowl, splitting into four, so that that they appear to transform into an animal with grasping tentacles. The bodies of the birds are painted black, and incised grooves and circles left the rich brown color of the wood decorate their bodies. The bowl stands on a low, ovoid foot. Size: 25.25" L x 8.5" W x 7.85" H (64.1 cm x 21.6 cm x 19.9 cm)
