Southeast Asia, Indonesia, ca. mid-20th century CE. A beautiful example of a kris with a cylindrical silver (90%) handle that features applied filigree motifs as well as several polished stone cabochons in blue, red, pink, and grey hues. The forged-steel blade has an incredibly straight profile with sharpened edges on either side, a pointed tip, and a stocky hand guard surmounted by a pair of abstract garudas. The hand-carved wooden sheath features a bulbous guard protector, a slender blade housing, and three silver (97%) jackets with dense foliate motifs in repousse. Size (w/ sheath): 7.375" W x 26.75" H (18.7 cm x 67.9 cm); (length of blade): 20.5" L (52.1 cm); quality of silver: 90% (handle), 97% (sheath jackets).
