Description:

New World, Guatemala, ca. mid 20th century CE. An intriguing mask, hand-carved from a single piece of hard wood, depicting an amusing anthropomorphic face with a second full person as the nose. The underlying guise is characterized by flush cheeks, large almond-shaped eyes, arching eyebrows above a pair of carved eye holes, and full lips with a red mouth. The secondary individual, serving as the "nose" of the mask, is situated with their toes grazing the mask's upper periphery and wears blue pants and a yellow shirt. Painted in hues of peach, ruby red, jet black, pearly white, citrine, crimson, and sapphire blue, this is a wonderful example of Guatemalan festival attire! Size: 6" W x 9.5" H (15.2 cm x 24.1 cm).
