Western Africa, Burkina Faso / Mali, Bamana peoples, ca. mid 20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden puppet head with a perforated tubular neck. The simplistic face is comprised of a slender nose, pursed lips, cupped ears, and a pair of petite metal pins for eyes. The domed head displays several bunched strands of black string held in place by thin metal panels which represent the figure's hair. Custom museum-quality display stand included. Size: 7.375" H (18.7 cm); 7.5" H (19 cm) on included custom stand.
