Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Michoacan area, Tarascan culture, ca. 1350 to 1521 CE. A hand-built redware pottery vessel known as a Tzin Tzan Tzun with a slightly concave base, a compressed circular body with a central carination, a rounded shoulder that tapers to a slender neck, a flared rim surmounted by an arching strap handle, and a narrow spout projecting from one side of the body. The shoulder is decorated with four panels of dense linear, spiral, and stippled motifs in hues of red, orange-red, and white, and parallel red stripes course around the lower body just beneath the carination. Size: 10.625" L x 7" W x 8.9" H (27 cm x 17.8 cm x 22.6 cm)

  • Condition: Professionally repaired from multiple pieces, with restoration around body, neck, spout, and handle, and resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Minor abrasions to base, body, spout, neck, and handle, with light fading to original pigmentation, and light encrustations. Nice manganese deposits and traces of original pigment throughout.
