Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Michoacan, ca. 1350 to 1521 CE. A collection of 3 hand-built pottery vessels from ancient Mexico. The 2 pots both have suspension lugs and handles for attaching cords to carry or store. The bowl is corrugated on the interior to serve as a grater for plants or for quickly removing the scales of edibles creatures like fish and snakes. All three are highly burnished and likely served as burial offerings for the deceased to use in the afterlife. Size of largest pot: 5" Diameter x 6.75" H (12.7 cm x 17.1 cm)

  • Condition: Pot is repaired from several pieces, with visible break lines and chips along the fissures. Restoration to rim of grater bowl with new material and infill along break lines. Handle vessel is intact with some abrasions to handles, plant remains and mineral deposits on the interior.
