Description:

Pre-Columbian, Northern Mexico, Casas Grandes (Paquime) culture, ca. 1100 to 1200 CE. A lovely pair of hand-built pottery storage vessels with textured incised patterning across the exterior surfaces. The larger rests on a flattened, stable base, the bulbous body rising up to rounded shoulders- the lower midsection is smooth and burnished, while the shoulder is etched with linear chevrons that create a repeating diamond pattern. The other vessel rests on a stable base, the surface scored in diagonal lines from base to the sharply carinated edge, and the upper shoulder is vertically lined. Size: 8" Diameter x 7" H (20.3 cm x 17.8 cm)

  • Condition: Loss to rim on carinated vessel and losses along shoulder edge, and abrasions to base and body. Larger vessel is intact and excellent with some minor surface wear and chips. Nice manganese deposits on larger vessel. Earthen and mineral deposits on both.
