Description:

**Originally Listed At $400**

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Michoacan, ca. 500 to 100 BCE. A nicely modeled pottery head, perhaps portraying a dignitary, wearing a crested helmet. Gazing out from slender, deep-set eyes with delineated pupils, the head presents a characteristic triangular visage with slanted brows, a naturalistic nose, and fleshy, slightly parted lips. Subtle details such as the intricately formed ears, the labret hole beneath the lower lip, and the raised cheekbones grant the piece an almost life-like quality. Incised striations along the crest of the helmet suggest that it may represent plumage. Size: 3.3" W x 3.1" H (8.4 cm x 7.9 cm); 5.8" H (14.7 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Healy collection, Studio City, California, USA, acquired 1995-2015; ex-private Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA collection
