Description:

**Originally Listed At $350**

Ancient Near East, Sumeria or Babylon, ca. 2nd to 1st millennium BCE. A nicely preserved terracotta plaque depicting two figures, both standing and wearing conical hats with beards. This plaque has an interesting form, curving outward near its base instead of lying flat. Pottery plaques are one of the lasting art forms from ancient Mesopotamia that give us a glimpse into religious practices and what people valued; they were often kept in the home, perhaps on a personal altar. Size: 2.75" W x 4" H (7 cm x 10.2 cm); 4.8" H (12.2 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: The Dere Family Collection, New York, USA, assembled 1970s-2000s, ex-William Froelich Collection, New York, USA, acquired in 1970s
