Near East, Mesopotamia, probably Syria, Tell Halaf area, ca. 6500 to 4500 BCE. Extremely rare depiction of a Tel Halaf fertility idol / Mother shown in a standing pose - as almost all known examples show these figures are shown seated. Like most representations of the female body at this time she is shown with exageratedly small head, large breasts and wide hips. She is painted with dark brown stripes on arms and legs with clear representation of the pubis. One hands sits upon her hip, the other on her buttocks with tattoo on her stomach in the form of a sun. Size: 1.625" W x 4.75" H (4.1 cm x 12.1 cm); 5.75" H (14.6 cm) on included custom stand.

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full printed and bound report is available to the buyer upon request.
