Ancient Near East / Central Asia, Bactrian or Mesopotamia, ca. 2000 to 1000 BCE. A intriguing carved limestone effigy figure of an abstract bull. The aniamsl stands on thick, knob legs, and a characteristic hump of the zebu breed of is set on its back, and incised male genitalia is on the underside. The Zebu is the domesticated form of the Asian aurochs. The humped bull was a recurring theme on the decorative and ritual arts from Central Asian cultures, as they were revered for their strength and virility. Size: 6" L x 2.5" W x 4.5" H (15.2 cm x 6.4 cm x 11.4 cm)
