Description:

Native American, US Southwest, Ancestral Puebloan (Anasazi), ca. 1200 to 1350 CE. A lovely ceramic cooking bowl, particularly striking for its star burst black on white design of diagonally set rectangles swirling toward the bottom of the bowl. These slanted rectangles symbolize lightning. Indeed the Anasazi worshiped spiritual figures representing many forces of nature. Rain, of course, was particularly significant as it was necessary to bring about rich harvests for the Ancient Puebloans. Size: 7" in diameter x 3.6" H (17.8 cm x 9.1 cm)

Provenance: private New Jersey, USA collection, found on private ranch in Southern Colorado, USA
