Description:

**Originally Listed At $750**

Western Europe, Italy or Spain, Medieval period, ca. 10th to 13th century CE. An interesting iron and wooden dagger with a lengthy blade and a thick handle. The wooden handle is mostly intact, which is remarkable since the wood is usually the area most prone to deterioration. The wood covers the tang, forming a round pommel, gripping surface, and a downward pointed guard. The blade is sharpened on one side, with a blunt thick edge, and a pointed tip. The age of this blade is evident with the rich accumulation of stones and mineral deposits on the ricasso area just above the guard. This dagger is large but the stealthy defense weapon would have been easily concealed under a cloak. Size: 13.75" L x 2" W (34.9 cm x 5.1 cm)

Provenance: ex-estate of Eldert Bontekoe, Pegasi Numismatics, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA acquired before 2000; ex-Andy Garcia collection
