Description:

Western Europe, Medieval Period, ca. 10th to 13th century CE. A brass annular brooch with a mysterious inscription around the edge. This circular brooch has a thin band with bas relief letters that repeat themselves around one side. A swivel pin is bent around the top of the brooch and articulates loosely. This fine piece would have been for pinning the front of a cloak or another article of clothing. The inscriptions sometimes contained blessings or prose to assure protection. A rich green patina covers the surface! Size: 1.675" Diameter (4.3 cm)
