Description:

Western / Southern Europe, near Italy, Late Bronze Age, ca. 10th to 9th century BCE. A handsome example of a utilitarian bronze axe head of a minimalist form with a broad, trapezoidal blade emanating from in front of the ovoid socketing shaft. The vertical blade edge indicates this axe head was used for shaping and carving rather than maiming and killing. Mottled blue and green patina has formed across the surface. Size: 7.25" L x 3" W (18.4 cm x 7.6 cm); 8.5" H (21.6 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Zaveloff collection, Lakewood, New Jersey, USA, acquired from Venus Gallery, Israel, in 2002
