Description:

Europe, England, ca. 13th to 14th century CE. A cast leaded bronze chape, or scabbard tip, for a broadsword. The chape is a metal fitting for the end of a leather scabbard to protect the sharp sword. The flat faces of this pocket shaped piece are embellished with open work crescent shapes and small rivet holes for attaching to the scabbard, one of the rivets is still connected through one side! A lovely piece of medieval weaponry, and these metal fittings are often the only part that remain of ancient scabbards. Lucite stand for photography purposes only. Size: 2.5" L x 2" W (6.4 cm x 5.1 cm)
