Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mayan Territories, ca. 500 to 950 CE. Finely carved from human bone, a pendant depicting a visage with Olmecoid features: that fleshy were-jaguar face with almond-shaped, slightly slanted eyes, a wide flattened nose, and a trapezoidal-shaped feline mouth with flared upper lip and drooping corners. Most impressive is the zoomorphic helmet - presumably representing a jaguar with those sharp fangs hanging over the forehead. Custom stand. Size: 2" W x 2.75" H (5.1 cm x 7 cm); 4" H (10.2 cm) on stand

Provenance: private R.D. collection, Long Beach, California, USA collection, acquired over 25 years from various major galleries.
