Pre-Columbian, Central America, Guatemala, Soconusco region, Toltec civilization, ca. 900 to 1200 CE. A delightful pottery jar in the form of a nude female figure shown crouching and head projecting forward with a wonderfully expressive visage of a curved nose, full cheeks, and fleshy lips held in a warm smile, all crowned by an openwork headdress. Hands on knees, her body is adorned with negative resist checkered designs, while her upper back opens to form the broad rim of the vessel. Size: 4.8" W x 544" H (12.2 cm x 1381.8 cm)
