Description:

Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, late Maya / Toltec, ca. 900 to 1200 CE. A hand-built and highly burnished pottery vase of a cylindrical form with a planar base, tall walls, a thin rim, and a deep basin. Several incised horizontal striations give the body a ringed presentation, and the interior and exterior surfaces are decorated with faded orange glaze. The "plumbate" style is distinctive to late Classic and early Postclassic Mesoamerica, and is known for its glazed surfaces which imbue it with a reflective presentation. Size: 5.375" W x 7.375" H (13.7 cm x 18.7 cm).

Provenance: private Tucson, Arizona, USA collection, acquired between 1950 and 1985
