Pre-Columbian, Maya Territories, Terminal Classic to Early Postclassic, ca. 700 to 1200 CE. A rare and quite remarkable pottery bowl featuring an annular base and sloped walls that lead to a carinated body with a slightly flared rim. The interior is enveloped in a vibrant shade of red, while the exterior boasts elaborate painting of black-on-red horizontal lines embellishing the upper body and abstract black-on-beige pseudo-glyph designs on the lower. A lovely spiraling pattern decorates the underside of the base. Size: 8.1" Diameter x 3.3" H (20.6 cm x 8.4 cm)
