Pre-Columbian, Central America, Guatemala, Peten Region, Maya, Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A hand-built pottery bowl of a flat-bottomed form with tall walls and a gently flared rim. The exterior walls are decorated with a series of parallel vertical ribs that create a textured presentation, and the entire bowl is enveloped in a thick layer of red pigment; the rim is outlined in black. Size: 6.375" W x 2.7" H (16.2 cm x 6.9 cm)

  • Condition: Extensive nicks and abrasions to base, exterior walls, interior surfaces, and rim, with calcifications and encrustations, and fading to pigment in several areas, otherwise intact and very good. Nice remains of red pigment throughout.
