Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Maya, Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. An elegant jar with a flattened, stable base, globular body, waisted neck, and slightly flared rim. The inner rim and exterior are highly burnished, slipped in a warm orange hue, and painted with geometric and linear shapes in black and red; the bare base that displays the natural terracotta surface.
