Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mexico and Guatemala, Maya Lowlands, Late Classic, ca. 550 to 900 CE. An incredible blackware vessel with an incised glyph decorations upon the exterior walls. The piece is hand built- resting on 3 tripodal legs, hollow cylinders that support the rounded base, and the thick walls flare outward to a broad rim. The curvilinear and serpentine glyph is repeated on both sides for the vessel, the lines accented with red pigments. Tripodal vessels such as this were often used as marriage gifts between royal families for serving chocolate. Size: 11" Diameter x 6.75" H (27.9 cm x 17.1 cm)
