Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Jaina Island, Maya, Late Classic Period, ca. 600 to 900 CE. A mold-formed pottery whistle in the shape of an anthropomorphic owl figure standing with a loincloth draped between delineated legs. Presenting with outstretched arms, the figure holds its avian head high while a petite whistle mouthpiece is situated along one shoulder element; the whistle creates a low-pitched sound when air is blown in the mouthpiece. Size: 1.8" L x 4.625" W x 5.7" H (4.6 cm x 11.7 cm x 14.5 cm)
