Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Jaina / Campeche, Maya, Late Classic Period, ca. 600 to 850 CE. A fine mold-made pottery in the form of a standing figure dressed in lavish ornaments wearing a long robe. The person likely embodies a shaman or lord- the beaded necklace with large pectoral, earspools, and elaborate headdress all indicate elite status. The hollow body stands upright on a flat base, the interior filled with small pebbles or pottery shard to create the rattling sounds- additional vent or suspension holes are set through the torso and base.
