Description:

Pre-Columbian, El Salvador, Mayan, Copador, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A beautifully preserved ceramic bowl, painted with glyphoid symbols around its exterior, and a series of three abstract zoomorphic creatures around the interior. These zoomorphs flow around the body of the vessel, which is also ringed by thick red and black bands around the rim and in tondo. Around the exterior base are two figures, perhaps meant to be the Hero Twins, each stretched out on their stomachs, swimming through the underworld. Size: 6" W x 2.25" H (15.2 cm x 5.7 cm)

  • Condition: Repaired and restored from two pieces, with overpaint along repair lines, notably at the rim. Expertly done and almost impossible to discern. Otherwise very nice preservation of the original pigment. Light wear commensurate with age, including a few small scratches through the pigment.
