Description:

Latin America, Mexico, Mata Ortiz, ca. late 20th to 21st century CE, signed by Armando Silveira on base. A hand-built pottery jar of ovoid form with a petite base and a flared rim. The red and black exterior displays a dense feathered motif that curves into spiraling bars along the lower body, and the buffware neck is adorned with hundreds of petite notches. The village of Mata Ortiz has become a world-famous center for ceramic production in recent decades due to the renewed interest in traditional Mogollon pottery found in and around the archeological site of Casas Grandes (Paquime) which is a short distance from Mata Ortiz.
