Description:

Eastern Africa, Madagascar, early to mid-Triassic period, ca. 252 to 220 million years ago. A fossilized / petrified tree trunk sliced crossways and highly polished on one planar face to showcase the striking earthen hues. This specimen is possibly a fossilized species of an Araucaria softwood tree, that was buried under sediment when it died - the lack of oxygen or anaerobic environment was perfect for stopping the normal process of decay. Eventually water flowed through the wood, depositing minerals into its cells, creating the stone and colors. While this is a fabulous display piece, prepared petrified wood slabs can even be lightly used as a table coaster or charcuterie board! Size: 0.5" L x 17.5" W x 13.1" H (1.3 cm x 44.4 cm x 33.3 cm); 12.625" H (32.1 cm) on included custom stand.
