Description:

Ancient Near East, Northwestern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1000 to 600 BCE. A wonderful copper spearhead with a rich patina. The blade is a petaloid shape with a prominent midrib running from the tip to the socketing shaft. The socket was likely formed with a mandrel and has a seam where the two edges meet to create the cylindrical shape. Layers of a stunning blue, brown, and green patina envelop the entire weapon. A spearhead like this could be mounted on a pole and would be a deadly combat weapon. Size: 6" L x 1.25" W (15.2 cm x 3.2 cm); 7.5" H (19 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Zaveloff collection, Lakewood, New Jersey, USA, acquired from Venus Gallery, Israel, in 2002
